Chapter 350 350: Still Lazy, Even Now
Chapter 350 350: Still Lazy, Even Now
Ritter took the girl on a sweep across the surrounding seas, pushing his blood mist perception to its limits. Still, he found nothing. No island suitable for ship repairs. More precisely, nowhere with craftsmen skilled enough to handle a proper vessel.
Most of what he saw was primitive. Underdeveloped. Some places were even worse off than Blu-Blu Island.
Only after leaving Blu-Blu did he realize just how exceptional Blu-Blu had been.
"Tch. Annoying."
Clicking his tongue, Ritter gave up on the search for now and returned with the girl to the slowly recovering town.
Well, whatever. Things will work themselves out when they have to.
A few more days passed.
The town had begun to take shape again. It was still rough around the edges, but there were proper streets now, and houses sturdy enough to keep out wind and rain. More importantly, the people had changed. Their faces carried real smiles, and their eyes held something new: expectation.
Joy Boy's so-called "Dance of Liberation" and his ridiculous brand of happiness might have looked foolish, but the results were undeniable. The suffocating stillness was gone.
With everything finally on track, Ritter and Joy Boy decided it was time to set sail again.
A-Yang and A-Xing officially joined Joy Boy's crew. They were young, but full of energy, their eyes shining with dreams of adventure.
There was something amusing about the situation. The two kids called Joy Boy "Captain," yet in their minds, there had to be someone above a captain. That role clearly belonged to Ritter.
After all, they had seen it with their own eyes. Joy Boy got scolded by Ritter all the time and never dared talk back.
So when they learned Ritter was not actually part of Joy Boy's crew, it felt like the sky had collapsed. Ritter was the one who kept everything running smoothly. And when they realized he would eventually leave, their disappointment hit hard.
At that moment, the girl stepped forward. She placed a hand gently on each of their heads.
"Traveling together… those memories matter."
Tears welled up instantly in the children's eyes.
"Big sis…"
They threw themselves into her arms.
She patted their heads, again and again.
"It's okay. It's okay."
Ritter watched from the side, eyes lighting up.
Interesting.
A small single-mast sailboat set off alongside Joy Boy's massive rubber ship, leaving the port together.
Days passed. Calm seas. Clear skies.
On the rubber ship, Joy Boy played childish games with A-Yang and A-Xing, their laughter carrying across the water.
"Let's see who reaches the stern first! If you beat me, I'll admit you're amazing!"
Meanwhile, Ritter lounged lazily on the deck of his own boat. The girl sat quietly beside him, staring out at the endless blue, occasionally nibbling on fruit.
Peaceful.
For a while.
Then the sky changed.
Without warning, a deep, strange hum echoed from above. It was unlike anything natural. Not wind, not birds.
It grew louder. Faster.
Ritter was the first to react. He shot upright, crimson eyes snapping toward the sky. Blood mist surged around him, silently enveloping the entire ship.
The girl looked up as well.
Her body tensed slightly.
But this time, there was no trembling. No overwhelming fear clawing at her from within.
Only focus.
Only readiness.
This was no longer terror. It was awareness. A threat to face. Something to fight.
And something to protect.
Ritter.
On the other ship, Joy Boy stopped playing.
He did not understand what was coming, but his ability to "hear the voice of all things" told him enough.
Hostility.
Danger.
The shift in his companions' demeanor confirmed it.
"What is that sound?" A-Xing clutched her brother's arm. A-Yang tightened his fists, eyes fixed upward.
The hum peaked.
Then the clouds split open.
A sleek, metallic craft descended, its surface gleaming with an unnatural cold light. It hovered in midair, defying everything this world should understand about flight.
The underside opened.
Figures dropped from within, streaks of energy carrying them down.
They landed midair, suspended above the ships.
Silver-white combat suits. Full helmets. Weapons humming with concentrated energy.
High-tech warriors.
From the moon.
They had finally caught up.
In an instant, every weapon locked onto the girl.
The lead soldier spoke, voice cold and mechanical:
"Return our Divine Maiden. Cease resistance and come with us to Birka for judgment."
Once, those words would have broken her.
Fear would have consumed her. Paralyzed her. Forced her into submission or despair.
But now…
She stood beside Ritter.
The sea breeze lifted strands of her hair. Her ice-blue eyes met theirs calmly.
No fear.
No confusion.
No anger.
Only an endless, frozen stillness.
As if she were looking at obstacles already destined to be shattered.
Joy Boy stepped forward without hesitation.
He did not understand who they were.
He did not understand their words.
But he understood one thing.
They were enemies.
And they wanted to hurt his companion.
His body expanded instantly, rubber limbs stretching out to shield the girl.
"Hey! What do you think you're doing to my friend?!"
His voice thundered with anger.
"You're not touching her!"
Ritter watched the girl's reaction and smiled, satisfied.
Good.
That was exactly what he wanted to see.
He stepped forward, standing beside her. Blood mist roared outward, thick and suffocating, turning the air itself heavy with killing intent.
And yet, his voice remained as lazy as ever.
"Judgment? Back to that dump?"
He tilted his head slightly.
"I think you've got the wrong idea."
The blood mist surged upward, twisting into nine massive, ferocious blood dragons. Their eyes locked onto the targets above, killing intent blazing.
"Right now… I'm the one passing judgment."
He reached out and ruffled the girl's hair, then glanced back at the siblings, who were gripping mops like makeshift weapons.
"Watch closely. I'll show you what a real greatswordsman looks like."
From within the blood mist, Ritter slowly drew the Black Tide greatsword.
The blade rose, pointing straight at the warriors in the sky.
The air tightened.
The battle was about to begin.
